All the examples so far posted here of the reasons why post-industrialized humans are less intelligent or resourceful than pre-industrialized/industrialized persons are based on personal value judgements. In other words, you believe cooking your own food is important, for example.
But, in areas of the world where there are restaurants on every corner- cooking is a choice, not a necessity.
In undeveloped areas of the world where grains/fruits still needs to be grown, meat products tended to and prepared in order to eat- cooking is a necessity and a means to survive.
The intelligence is in the human consuming food to match the demands of their environment.

In our own society, we have agricultural, rural areas that are on the borders of urban spaces- here people can both grow and prepare their foods (cook) or take a ride into town and grab some prepackaged foods at the grocery store or prepared food at a restaurant.

In an urban space it is possible to stay healthy, if good choices are made, by not cooking a meal.
Again, to say a person is not as intelligent in modern times because they cannot cook ( and there are many other value judgements made here along these same lines) is something you believe is important. For some it is- for others it is not.

This makes sense to me.

Does anyone else see the irony of people starting to argue with people they don't even truly know...IN a post of things that are wrong with society? Seriously, let's not start back & forth stuff with each other here guys. Nothing wrong with opinions at all but don't let it drop to a lower level okay ;)

Take one look at the farming industry. Sure we had to get technically advanced to feed the masses only to find out how much that technology is hurting us. People are now moving away from massed produced means and leaning more towards the organically grown food sources.

Society has destabilized to the point where the skills I listed will soon be important again, you don't get as far by doing "the bare minimum in this time with no regards to the future", the time to learn necessary skills is before you need them, if you only bother to learn skills at the time you need them, then it's to late.
Everything you learn, every skill you gain that everyone else might not know, gets you at least one step ahead.
If you would like the evolutionary theory of this way of thought, it is called "the red queen" or "the red queen theory".

You do not survive a event where many die by knowing or showing the same traits/knowledge/skills they are, but by having/knowing/being skilled at more things, by in other words: being better prepared for a changing or new enviorment.

If you only play in the here and now, then tomorrow is your last day (metaphorically speaking).

Society is destabilized- a personal judgement? Ways of thought or, as in this case, the presumption of catastrophic events, has been here since the dawn of time. We have had them in every age.
