Its definitely internal parasites guys... He had white stringy stuff coming out... I've started medicating with this all purpose medication for parasites, he still is bright colored and swimming around but still not eating, should I call and tell the fish store they sold me a sickly fish or wait it out?

thats weird, this post just showed up but was originally posted monday?

You can try to call the fish store, but this is to be expected. Most all fish from stores need quarantine for quite some time.

First off I would isolate the fish into a tank by itself. I have been using Metrozidanole to treat parasites. General cure and the like never seem to do much for me, just my experience.

I bought a bottle of the powder off ebay and just weigh it with a scale. There are many other treatments out there though.

But first things first, isolate the fish and at the very least change his water daily. This will ensure most any parasites floating in the water column will be removed daily.

Next start treating with your choice of meds. I personally like the metro treatment.

You can also soak food in a epsom salt solution but if this fish isnt eating its kinda pointless.

Maybe some others will chime in with effective treatments.

Thanks for all the feedback guys the Green Terror is just starting to nibble at pellet and sift through sand, hes not fully eating yet. The water changes and medicating ive been doing seems to have got him feeling better hes a lot more active, not convinced hes fully cured but I believe hes on his way to complete health!

white stringy stuff can be due to stress and not eating as a result of the tank not being cycled. Did you test your ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates with liquid tests?

All of my water is completely stable I’ve never had any problems with it pH wise. The tank hasn’t been setup long enough to have too much nitrogen compounds anyway so that isn’t the issue. I’m positive it’s some sort of parasite not sure what type though, the only symptoms he has is not fully eating but nibbling, stringy white poop , and skinny not quite to the point of sunken.

So it's not cycled? What does not setup long enough mean? What does stable mean? We use numbers in ppm measurements for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate to determine stability. How long has this tank been cycled? How long has he been in the aquarium?

All the symptoms described so far also indicates a stressed out fish still getting used to its environment, unless you've taken a fecal sample and put it under a microscope. An 8" fish can last a few weeks of not eating. I've easily had a 6" fish not eat for 1 month, and not have a sunken belly. She didn't have parasites.
