Hello MFK,

I have a pair of Andinoacara Stalsbergi that have spawned once in Jun 2018 and have not spawned since. Not sure if I am doing anything wrong. Feeding high protein diet (frozen bloodworms, nightcrawlers and northfin), 50% weekly wc and 78-80f. Lots of pre spawn action from the male and female and her tube is constantly showing but no eggs were dropped and has been like this the passed 2 months. Any ideas would help.

When you do water changes roughly what temp are you putting in? Same, a little warmer, little colder?

You can always try changing temps. Up the tank to 82 after a wc and then when the next wc is due drop the temp down with cooler water (maybe 76-78) and change out more water. Fin level.
My riv pair seem to always get triggered by that. Not sure if stals will, but could be worth a try if you haven’t done this already.

I've tried all those combinations as well. I tried to mimic rainfall and drought season and even light cycles. I'm just trying to bring stalsbergi back into the hobby

How about tank mates? Is there anything else in with them?

The first few months I had no tank mates. Not much was happening. I added some cichlids dithers such as convict/firemouth and the stalsbergi started to be territorial and I eventually removed the convict and firemouth and left bleeding heart tetras like I did when they first spawned

You say the females egg tube is constantly down?
Is this an actual observation?
Are you sure it’s her egg tube?
Is she otherwise seem to be in good health?

Yes, it's her egg tube. It's like half way showing but goes back up at times. I've been doing heavy feeding of protein food as well. My guess is that she's having trouble producing eggs. And not sure what else I can do.

Okay. Just gathering information. Anytime we “power feed” fish a high protein diet to help produce a spawn it’s possible to over feed.
Then the comment of “constantly down “ made me question.
So if the pair has spawned in the past we can assume they are bonded and it’s probably going to happen again. Eventually
They are otherwise healthy and acting normally, nothing else changed as far as your water quality, ph and temperatures are all normal. You haven’t changed your routine in how you do maintenance.
You haven’t added an overly aggressive tank mate, or the pair bond hasn’t otherwise been broken.
Is the former spawning site still the same? Usually they will use the same spot once it’s to their liking.
Have you rearranged the tank?
If all that seems normal I would say just keep it up, don’t try to force it. It will eventually happen again.

The only difference is that I moved and they are now in a 75 gallon vs 125 gallon. And before there was lots of algae everywhere. The picture is from their first spawn approx 7 months ago
