Nothing built between '74 and '95 could get out of its own way. The emissions killed them. The '71 454 Crossfire Corvette was effectively the fastest car until the '90s brought out computerized timing, EGR, and injection. (Yes, there where faster cars, but not many.) The '70s cars were losers.

This beautiful bomb is probably a good bit faster than that "Muscle Car".

Hello; Best I recall is 1971 was pretty much the end of the first wave of muscle. Not sure when to tag the second wave for sure but think it was clearly on the way around 92-93.

Now let's not be so hard on 70s muscle. Anyone with a drop of gasoline in their blood knows not to discount them. There are a few reasons why. Heavy emissions regulations definitely choked out a lot of power but any shade tree mechanic I know could circumvent smog equipment in an afternoon with simple hand tools and few sometimes no parts. Also in 1972 manufacturers changed the way they were advertising their horsepower. You went from gross or brake horsepower, which was the motor outfitted with performance headers, optimal timing, fuel, 1 accessory belt, loose. That's not what you're really getting. SAE net values which came after 72 were more real world at that time. J J. H. bring that bomb out anytime you're ready!!! :thumbsdow
