Crazy Craigslist Sellers

Don’t be quick to judge absurd pricing. Click the link. I completely agree with the ridiculous $1000 price tag on used 55 gallons but always look at what’s included. A pair of higher end lighting systems could easily justify the price. I’ve seen 20 gallon systems sell for $2000. My 20 gallon system sold for $1600 last year, it was standard 20 long with a custom stand and canopy done by myself, 30lbs of livestock, coral, and a good lighting system. I posted my 80 gallon bowfront for $4000. No takers, a lot of stupid low ball offers and comments on how it’s worth $1000 only. Decided to part out the system. Currently I’m at livestock $1300, lights $1500, pumps $1200, skimmers:$600, dosing pump with its accessories $450 with a lot of items still left to go including tank, stand, filtration system. In the end I’ll recoup $5500-6000+. A lot of people are quick to criticize. In comparison, I sold my 500 gallon tank, stand, with Bashsea sump reactor and skimmer for $4000. It was a $13,000 tank and $4000 filtering system. Still, plenty of complaints and low ball offers at $1/gallon. I Love hearing the line “used aquariums sell for $1/gallon normally”.

The ads that make me laugh are the ones where an everyday common fish is being sold as rare. I saw someone selling a “classroom style” guppy tank as an exotic rare tropical fish aquarium. Or when silver arowanas are posted for $400.

My general rule is I’ll sell at 50% off store pricing if it’s used. If it’s really old 20-30%.

There’s more dumb replies out there to ads then there are dumb ads. Trust me. I was once offered a goat and jewellery for my stingray.

Lepisosteus Lepisosteus I agree there are way more dumb replies then there are ads. Half the time people ask questions that can easily be answered in the ad.

Dozen ramshorn snails for $10. Petsmart here will give you as many as you want for free. Also a used 5 gallon for $105. Both adds made me actually lol.

i sold 100 brichardi on craigslist for $1 each just because i wanted to use the tank for something else. one guy buys 50 and immediately sells them for $3 now that price is truly outrageous
I'd pay $3/ea. for 5-10 Neolamprologus Brichardi right now - quite happily LOL. Even more happily if they were Elassoma sp., or shelldwellers.:headbang2

That's got to be a typo some how.

Shipping and handling for relatively large glass items is expensive. I used a moving company when I moved halfway across the country, they said it would cost an extra ~$300 if I wanted to bring my 55g with me.

It's a 40 gal, no idea why anyone would pay that price, since 40 gals are easily availible for less at about any fish shop
