OK, his answer was a little bit hard but I was in similar situations before and couldn't understand how people come to the idea to make such silly offers. For my part I would never make an offer so low.
It's worthless in my opinion.
The best would be to simply ignore such offers.
But sometimes it's hard.

220g tank for $500 depending on condition isnt a bad price. You low balled him pretty hard I'd be offened also but wouldn't reply to you. You probably should have edited his response for the content also...most would get the idea.

At least you offered money. Every time I try and sell stuff on CL I get people trying to trade me stuff like:

80's Chevy S-10 w/ 200k miles
Subwoofers
Lawnmowers
Snowblowers
Video game systems
Etc..

I could see talking some one down $50-100 but unless the tank had some serious defects then I can understand his being offended by your offer. A decent second hand 220 is already a steal at $500. His response was ridiculous tho.

I dont see an issue with the offer. Can only negotiate up. I think the seller is being too emotional. Make a counter offer or disregard the offer all together. If your buying a house or a car the 1st offer is never the asking price unless theres a desperation on the part of the buyer

This was handled wrong all around. A supreme lowball offer, an extremely childish response from the seller, and posting unedited screencaps with language that violates the TOS. Man, what a mess lol

I'm sad I had to delete that image too, the seller's reply WAS pretty funny
