LED Flood lights?

Anyone using cheap 6500k flood light LEDs from amazon such as these?

I was thinking about going this route, will be contained in a floating hood so not worried about asthetics. Curious to see who has tried them and how they like them.

I would worry that even dimmed it might be too bright, or that the light spread might be too narrow but seems like a good cheap alternative. for $20 you should just try it and let us know if it works.

Yeah I’m debating between wattages. They will be suspended about 9 inches or so, so I’m not too worried about beam angle being too narrow. Going to grow some pothos and other things as well out of the top so I need some decent brightness. I think I’ll try a 30 watt to start and see how it goes.

I’d love to see some setups out there with these things though if y’all have them

I’m a little choked that I paid 50-60$ for lights like this for work. Wish I would have looked online.

I went with 3, 2 watt floods from amazon ($20). I was worried that the 30 watts ones would be too large for my hood. Looks like close to 6500k.

I’ll post picks once this this is wet so yall can get an idea of the brightness. These certainly would not be sufficient if this was a planted tank, but it will not be.

An old LFS owner i knew used to use flood lights to supplement his regulr T5 shop lights...

If i remember correctly he experimented with everything from 5W - 50W and ended up using just the 10 & 25W flood lights focusing on high light plants suspended about 15” or so above the tank surface...

So will be keeping an eye on this thread to see how your lights work out for you...

i've had 3 20watt versions in my 135 gallon before. and they were plenty bright. it grew my plants pretty well. only thing i do not like about the flood leds is it washes out the fish colors. so it makes your fish a lil bland. other than that its a good light for the price. i switched back T5 and got geismann bulbs daylight/pink. my fish stands out a lot more now. miss the led shimmering effect tho.

What was it about them that washed the colors out? Spectrum? Brightness? That was a concern of mine. I have a current USA bar that I may throw on there for color. We will see

Altums85 you are right, fish appear pretty washed out with these lights, so I’m on the hunt for something to enhance color. I’ll probably leave the floods on to grow pothos out of the top and add a RGB led strip or two.

Anyone have any suggestions for something affordable and effective? Beamswork RGB perhaps? Fluorescent tubes? Just need some color pop on the fish

if you want color i think its hard to beat T5's. in my opinion, leds still havent matched the color T5's put out. or perhaps there is some leds that gives out colors like T5's but prob expensive. like my older post. i went back to T5's. went with oddyssey cuz its pretty cheap. and i switched out the bulbs to some geisseman bulbs. it really made my fish color pop like crazy. especially the reds on my fish.
