Flowerhorn identification

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like a super red kamfa monkey to me. Or could be a kamfa dragon with some red texas in it.
I dont think it will grow too fast, the eyes are taking up more than 1/3 of its face and fins are short. Stick with a good staple pellet like omega one super color cichlid, hikari bio gold plus, nls cichlid or thera +.

Thanks again everyone! His/her colors just keep on adjusting. But when it actually does relax a little bit, which isnt too often, it hangs out right next to the heater. I keep the tank between 78°-82° so i think maybe it's just a comfortable area for the little guy/gal

Its been 12 days since i brought it home. Starting to get a kok now. Its becoming more noticeable every day. And its colors went from a light red to a very dark red almost black. It looks like alot of the pictures i see when i search "king kamfa"

Is he in a community tank? Would recommend separating it soon. Would lean on kamfa due to the pearling on the fins and how the flower line looks. Good luck grooming. Get a staple food like hikari, NLS or d likes. If u wanna groom him, maybe put it on a single tank.

Yea he/she is in a community tank right now. What is grooming tho? I havent heard of that yet. Im gunna need to upgrade to a bigger tank within the next 6months to a year but for now it works out pretty good. I actually picked up another small flowerhorn from the same petco. The two get along great, when i first introduced this one they sized each other up did some dance like thing an have been buddies since

jus be careful. they are buddies now but sooner or later the aggression will show up. The bigger the tank the better or with other fish in it. Good luck and enjoy this addicting hobby lol

Looks like a ZZ Dragon bro. It's still really young and has a lot of coloring up to do, which it will happen pretty quick if good water parameters, feeding etc. I can't put a figure on the growth rate but if it eats well (but don't overfeed) it's going to start growing like a sprout soon.

Too early to tell for sure about the hump, but it's possible it's a female (that said I can't really tell from your pix if it has any black markings on its dorsal fin (which often indicates it's a female).

Depending on it's personality you might eventually have to get him/her their own tank, it might get increasingly aggressive with the other fish, just watch to see how they all get along but be prepared that you might have to move some fish. Good luck and show us some updates later as it grows out more.

Can you identify my flower horn?
