Matteus Matteus I totally agree, I get you. I certainly don’t intend on showing or competing this fh I understand that would take more of a keen eye, experience, knowledge of these fish ( and probably plenty of cash ) to get the high quality show piece. However I know some experienced guys could possibly spot something I missed or that could potentially happen. eg body shape doesn’t quite look right and possibly cause something further down the line, colour tends to change or fade in a particular type,
I mean at the end of the day it’s going to be a fish room buddy ( wet pet ) I just don’t understand why I’ve seen very similar looking fish at the same size in fish stores at nearly four times that price, just making sure I haven’t missed something.

My only advice is too take care of them like any other American cichlid. People make it more complicated and expensive than it should be. I would go with a 75 gallon for 1 flowerhorn. I’m not sure I know what your current accommodations for these guys are. People can make all the arguments they want but these guys do best with barebottom with no decorations. This is for easier maintenance and just safety for the fish. They can be reckless with their humps. Stick to several high quality medium protein cichlid pellets. Treats (anything other then pellets should be fed sparingly since Flowerhorns have a sensitive digestive systems). No beefheart or other animal produce. Really the treats are unnecessary since the pellets hold all the nutritional value these fish need. Once the fish reaches adult size I would integrate a veggie pellet into their variety of pellets. I use Omega one, Hikari, NLS. To get it out of the way if you don’t know already just avoid all the pellets marketed towards flowerhorn. Good luck with them!

Thanks HybridFinatic HybridFinatic , I plan to house them in a 60 x 20 x20 inch divided until I pick one. I do plan on putting sand substrate but no decoration. Luckily I do have a variety of good cichlid pellets with none aimed at flowerhorn specific. I do usually treat my other cichlids with worms, shrimp, prawns.thanks for the advice
