Hello everyone.

I currently have six Cichla Kelberi and intermedia that are about 16-18” long. I wanted to know if they could swallow and try to eat a 8” L24 pleco. Given how spiny and rough they are, I’m wondering if they’ll be safe. I know”regular” plecos would be lunch but given how spiny Pseudacanthicus are...especially L24’s, I’m hoping I’m safe.

Please advise if you have any experience. Thank you.

If it fits it ships. I can’t really say yes or no but I can add this, I recently had to take out my royal pleco at 5” from my bass tank. One of my fish tried to eat him and they are all around 12”.
Ouch. I guess I’ll have to eye ball first fore risking anything. Royals are thick too. Jeezus.

The spines on the l24 wouldn’t deter them?

I don’t think those spines running down the body would cause them much of a problem but the dorsal and pectoral might. Bit of a risk but they are all awsome looking fish I must say. Beautiful tank.

Thank you. I will probably not risk it after all and grow them separately in my other tank.

I am always learning on this stuff. I am setting up a new tank and will make sure pleco is right size. A pbass could strike at one before it realizes the spines. Don't need the aggravation. Thanks guys.

You can mix plecos and bass, you just need to have tupe that grows fast enough. My fish all lived together for over a year and the bass never really bothered with him. But royals grow so slowly so he just couldn’t keep up. I can’t say I didn’t see it coming because a few months ago they started to chase him when he would swim across the tank and then one day I came home and someone had did a number on him, but didn’t take him down and spit him up.

Be like a hard piece of candy suck on it awhile and sooner or later it goes down.

If it fits its ships LOL got to remember that. With all preds if it fits into its mouth some day it will.
