Advise needed: ideal geophagus for a 125 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In a 125 there are a lot of the larger geos that will not be well suited to a 125. Many people don't realize how large an adult altifrons gets (12") or even a jurupari ((9+") and how cramped these fish will eventually become in the confines of a 125. RH Tapajos would be a nice fit. Good luck.

For those that hate duplicate threads.... sorry... I had a similar one not focused on geos in the general Cichlid forum.

Rapps had Rotkiel severums and some 2.5-3” clown loaches which I have a soft spot for. Just asked him to ship 1 set and 8 loaches. Not worried about 5-10 when the loaches finally outgrow the tank. Upgrades can happen.

That doesn’t leave room for a group of geos. Would any work as a solo in that setup?

Thanks for all the advise, I was almost 100% on the tapagos.

On and I have wild ideas about introducing my oscar to that tank once inhabitants get big enough to defend... have a 90 gal hand if I need to shuffle inhabitants... timing will ultimately depend on the size and growth rate of the loaches I’m assuming..,
