This discussion came up in another area, I figured it deserved it own thread.

What information do you prefer 1st hand experience from other members or internet care sheets ?

I'll take 1st hand experience any day of the week over an internet care sheet. I can see care sheets being useful for commonly kept fish like loaches, barbs, oscars ect ect. But imo anything uncommon like polys is best learned from other trusted members on forums like mfk or FB. Not that they are completely useless but should be vetted by more experienced hobbyists.

Allot of inaccurate and outdated info in the above links.

Information found on the internet is only as good as the source. Lots of sketchy info out there, even regarding the more commonly kept species of fish.
Yup agreed. At least on a forum comments can be challenged, information from members who i know are credible can be used over someone googling and copy pasting.

My grand kids grand kids would be waiting for that sen to hit 20" lol

It's for this exact reason that I wrote the following years ago.

The author (and admin) on loaches online decided that for whatever reason they were going to let the incorrect information on that subject stand. All that did was make them look like idjits, not experts.

......can't argue with that.

y'know mate I used to think even Turkana sens don't go past 45cm but this article states a study in 2003 collected a 50.5cm senegalus from lake Turkana.

Northeast end of Lake Turkana (Boulenger 1905, 1906, 1909; Hopson & Hopson 1982); Omo River Delta (Pellegrin 1935),
and the lower Omo River (Baron et al. 1997); Nilo-Sudanic in distribution; 50.5 cm TL (Seegers et al. 2003).

I would LOVE to see that particular specimen!

I would take information from a specialized forum like MFK over a care sheet.

I would stay away from Facebook for good information.
More often than not I’ve seen people trying to give good advice to some dumb know it all and they get called down by a mod for trying to correct someone.
Because you’ll hurt their feelings.
I hate FB for fish advice
