If they are from the same batch, the largest ones tend to be male. It’s very hard to sex Thrichthys until they reach sexual maturity when the males will develop long trailers.

Are they T. aureus gold? It’s hard to tell between T. aureus and maculipinus, firmerly elioti.

They are all from the same batch except the smallest one. All from the same Lfs. They were simply labeled t. Aureum.. how big will they be sexually mature? The biggest ones are about 3in. And the smallest 1in.

At 3" they are close to revealing their real identity soon. Females are certainly close to sexual maturity at that size.

There is a good chance it is an elioti mislabeled as aureus in the lfs. I’ve seen this happened a lot as aureus are quite rare. If they are approaching maturity, they will pair up soon and you won’t need to ID their sex. Glad that you have multiples so you have a good chance getting a pair.

Yeah my LFS had them labeled as just T. Aureum. Hey are pretty old school and he said he gets his cichlids from Florida. It's so hard to tell between elioti and Aureum... either way im hoping to get a pair or two
