Anyone ever mix Mdoka White Lips with Central or SA Cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I need to catch up on your thread FINWIN last I read he was just over 6”. That guy is really growing fast!

That’s a really colorful female RD. I see a lot that look washed out. What a beauty!

Thanks, she's actually a deeper red/orange in person, the flash from my $20 point & shoot washed her out in that pic.

Wow, yeah, that's WAAAY old news. If Brick keeps going like this he should be a foot by the summer. But we'll see. I've posted a growth timeline in the "Tank Pics" thread also showing his current stats. I will measure him next on May 1 and so on each month. The clear ruler stays beside the tank for convenience.

It sounds like I’m going to have to read up on about two chapters I missed. Lol! I broke the clear dollar store ruler I bought after you gave me the idea. I replaced it with one of my grandkids rubber rulers. Lol

The tank pics thread is the journal thread, so I post there fairly often or usually when something different is going on with the fish. Get yourself a PICKETT clear ruler. Those suckers are tough. Go up to 15 inches. I ordered a second ruler off Amazon but its 18 inches and a different brand!

Thanks to you FINWIN FINWIN I decided to get a tape measure out on my KKP, turns out she's 9", and the carpintis with her is 10". I seem to always underestimate the size of my fish, so thanks for that! :)

I keep the clear ruler taped to the bottom edge of the tank. I line up the 18" mark line with the inside corner, so its easy. I just wait for a fish to lean against the glass! Takes patience, though...sometimes they move too much. If they swim along the ruler I'll take several pics and read the best one for measurement.

Your KKP is a big gal, kudos to her and her teeth! She's probably real thick, too. Looks like a "Bella."

If your fish don't like the ruler you can also measure the length of your hand (base to tip of longest finger) then lay it against the glass when the fish goes by. Less accurate but gives a close estimate! Coins taped to glass is good too.

Yes, she's a bit of chunky monkey! I purchased her at this size 2 1/2 yrs ago. Kind of a LFS rescue thing. Initially I thought that she, was a he. Ooops. lol
