Is this a real pacu species?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wouldn’t guess it’s pacu but same family. Seen other pacu and sd like fish with color like it.

Thats not an pacu but an relative to the thinbar, thickbar and red hook silverdollar. Its in the same family. I think the real pacu family only consists of two species. Colossoma macropomum and colossoma brachypomum

these are gorgeous Pacus! I have 6 almost sub adults from TUIC. Coming along quite well these are definite Gems.
Outstanding, got any pics to show us?

That is the problem with common names....
Pacu is a general term for many species of Serrasalmidae, in at least 4 genera, thus including many, many species.
On the other hand, what Tobias stated is correct - the "real pacu" (the monsters here called "pacu") are only two species.

The picture of the M. paraschomburkgii posted by Krichardson shows an absolutely beautiful fish, and appears to be a young male. A few says ago, Arraiza01 Arraiza01 posted some fish for sale, and although this particular fish was not included in the sale, it is young female of the same species, I believe also from Rapps. Beautiful fish.

I am currently at work!
I had first originally thought to have 2 females and 4 males... speaking to Wes about SD generally... sub adults will display the 2nd Lobe.
Looking close I notice it seems to be more like 4F 2M ratio..

here are some pics...but when I get home I can pose updated current today pics...

last pic has a filter to show more of the green-lime green base bodies they have

there are mislabeling of these Pacus as “smiling silver dollar, or Dolphin Pacu... regardless. Can’t wait for the adult stage of these... currently housed in a 365GFEE28AC6-3F53-4009-8887-B0C555A18306.jpegECC030D1-F46D-4B8B-8754-1E8389D1685A.jpeg6634DD50-97F4-49A1-AAF9-113AA799EDBF.jpegD448974F-3FAA-4F7E-A6EC-FE674259DB7E.jpegC88F8900-84E4-408F-89F6-07F0C4B0A24A.jpeg
