Pictus do much better in a group. I have found they are more skittish and have shorter lifespans when kept alone. Keep in mind that a group takes up a lot of space as they are active.

2 pictus will often fight. You need a group of at least 6.

Agreed, two of anything, unless they are incredibly placid, is usually a bad idea. 4+ usually works out better.

I do think pictus can do fine by themselves. But, if you've got the room and already got one, why not add a few more.

JD may be fine, Personally I might go for smaller less aggressive cichlids like rainbows. You could keep a nice group of them, 5 or so. They tend to be super mellow and will do well in your water.

I would agree with adding 2 more chalceus as well

That makes sense then as to why he was so against him lol. That was back with a smaller tank at the time. Also I was looking for something not a catfish.

Well that's interesting. I wouldnt want him to be so alone. But 6 seems like more than I want. Maybe 2 more?

Kuhli loaches, clown loaches, and rainbow loaches come to mind. The kuhli loaches are small peaceful loaches that do best in group,. Clown loaches can get big but take years to do so, schooling, and peaceful. The rainbow loach in my experience can get a bit aggressive when there are to many bottom dwellers that they encroach on his territory but other then that they are a nice addition. They get up to 6 inches and do best if they’re the only rainbow loach in the tank unless it’s a large tank.

Are you looking for suggestions for other fish besides loaches? I can recommend several other fish that I have experience with that I believe will do well in your tank and I can even help you with plants.

Sorry! Just saw this one. Didn't mean to ignore you. So I am open to more fish. I have the 3 clown loachs right now a out 1.5"-2" and they're doing great. Was looking to add another fish maybe just more if what's in there.
I likes the JD idea and maybe getting more pictus. I also like getting more chalceus if I can manage that. As suggested by the other membera
