Clarotes laticeps realistic size and tank size

That looks like a nice cat, but suuuuper rare. And there is no marked for rare fish here. I need to look in other the neighbour country anyway. and even there, super rare to find such fish. Catfish are not very popular here. unfortunately for me ;-)

Yes i think the whole Chrysichthys family is quite rare in the hobby. Im lucked out since im picking a Chrysichthys furcatus up prob next weekend.

But another cat that looks similar you got arius seemanni. They dont grow that big either and are quite common in the hobby. But i think they needs brackish water when older. thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter correct me if im wrong. I have never kept this species but have had my eyes on it before.

The seemanni is definitely needs brackish water. no fish of this species will survive long term in freshwater. But that is exactly the look im looking for in a catfish. They are common, but I don't want an brackish tank :)

Then your best bet is to find some species in the Chrysichthys genus. Alot of the cats in the Claroteidae family looks similar to eachother. Where you from?

I will check if the species (Chrysichthys ) is on a list. I'm from Switzerland.

Well if from switzerland you should be able to get fish from ruinemans, glaser and petra aqua. They have some nice cats every now and then. My clarotes and my comming C. furcatus is via glaser. My clarotes i picked up in a store. They had it for almost 6 months before i found it. The furcatus im buying from a friend who bought it through glaser.

Glaser is almost always my first station, but unfortunately my lfs never gets an actual up to date list. the list is always 2-3 weeks old. I will ask an other store if they could get me the list. I had some bad deliveries with ruinemans, maybe bad luck, but I lost a lot of money, so I'm not jumping on it. I don't know petra aqua. I will definitely check them out. Thank you very much!

Sphinxi's got it right. They rarely survive in freshwater to reach 1'-1.5', like one in a million. And even then, it's likely a torture for them and they perish soon anyway. More here http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/new-black-fin-shark.545179/page-4#post-6513159 post #34
