Will 1/2 inch / 12 mm tempered glass work?

What thickness of glass is recommended specifically for the bottom panel?

What will be the pressure of water on the glass in terms of psi?

Bro even if you used bulletproof glass at 1/2” it’ll blow like a balloon. You’re looking at roughly 18,000lbs of water, like the above post said you’ll need at least 2” thick glass or acrylic
 
What will it sit on?

4' deep x 64 pcf = 256 psf on the bottom not including sand or gravel or the glass itself, so easily 320+ psf.

Generally, even warehouses and libraries do not have floors rated over 300 lbs per square foot. 200~250 psf design load is common.
 
The glass manufacturer said 1/2 inch can handel 10000 psi of pressure.

To counter bowing, I'll be building an aluminum frame for all sides top and bottom, with virtical and central bracing.

customaquarium.com say they can make it with 1/2 inch tempered.
As for the frooring, the tank will be built and kept outdoors on top of a reinforced concrete slab. May need to a proper foundation.


Based on what are you saying I'll need 2 inches?

I guess if a tank builder wants to be behind that sure. I just did the configuration at customaquariums and they say they'd use 3/4" all around and roughly the same price. 1200# dry weight, that'd be insane to deal with. I guess all the safety factor sheets us DIY guys go with is with a safety factor of 4-6. Maybe they use a lesser safety factor. I know my plywood tank is was over built, but it's in my house and almost 500G of water is a lot to be on my floor.

That’s at 3’ I honestly think to be safe I wouldn’t go less than 1 1/2” thick glass. That being said my friend had a 450g acrylic completely blow out and that’s 1” acrylic.

I would build plywood with one 15mm tempered glasspane.
 
Three feet Hight will need 1/2 tempered, 4 feet Hight will probably need 3/4 tempered.

Your right.
I know of a guy who has 150cm insigt in his plywoodtank and if im remember it rigt he uses two x 12mm tempered glass laminated to one piece
