I currently have a discus set up with a dozen of my favorites. I have a piece of driftwood in the set up but I’m going for a bare sleek look. I would love to add some type of floating plants for them to them some sort of comfort. I’ve seen before people keep devils ivy in their aquariums, as long as the leaves are above water, right? what about English and regular Ivy, all I really see used by aquarist is devils Ivy so I want to make sure the kind ivy I’ve included a picture of is safe...?

I guess what I’m really asking is if I pull up the Ivy and the rinse to roots and plant in the sink to remove all dirt and debris... would it be safe to put it my discus setup?

devils ivy is poisonous to animals so i'd pass. you can get pothos fairly cheap and easy and its a proven winner. I use it in my axolotl tank.

Sorry i dont know about the ivy but i recently learned lucky bamboo will grow underwater. I am on the hunt for some.
I heard that if I use bamboo in my aquarium all it’s gonna do is rot unless the top of it is exposed to air.

huhh...dunno, makes sense. I will try it if I find some. Our little cow town does not even have a pet store but we recently had a Publix grocer open, i can find it in the floral section, likely. I have pothos growing right outside. I'm going to give that a go in my 30 but i only have sparse gravel in the bottom, gonna weight it with lead.

never heard that before. seen both sold next to each other at home depot and wal mart where I've bought mine. but hey...if you don't learn something new everyday you're wasting your time. thanks for the info! that's what makes this site so great!

Their best left floating the leaves need to be out of the water. Or at least this is how I see them in my local pet store.
