Parrot fish aggressive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't mind hybrids as long as they dont have any issues that affect their quality of life.

Just going by the parrots that I have kept, i have found that they have great personalities and are always out and about. Heck, 9 times out of 10 when I show someone my tanks that's the fish they get most excited about lol

Same thing with flowerhorns, never kept one myself but they are definitely interesting.

Besides hybridization is something that happens in nature all the time when waterways collide due to floodings or other random events. I've personally seen fish appear in people's ponds from birds accidentally dropping their prey.

Just for the sake of the argument one could say there's no such thing as a hybrid but simply evolution.

LOL duanes duanes - that first link is older then most people posting in this section.

Just think if the 2 was removed it would be as old as some of the people posting on this section too!

...... except you duanes duanes , even reading about hybrids is known to cause blindness in purists. lol

And even in the 2nd article, at the conclusion the author admits to previously hating Parrots, but then eventually comes around when he actually has experience with them:
"Many years ago, when I first saw parrots and learned about their unnatural origins, I was horrified. I was an outspoken critic of the parrot cichlid and hated them without ever knowing them. Since then, I've placed many parrot cichlids into tanks located in hospitals, daycares, schools, nursing homes, and the like. There is no other fish that gets the level of positive attention these fish do—everyone is drawn to their bright color, their personality, and their outright cute shape. They're large, incredibly hardy, superbly colored, and not particularly aggressive, filling a niche among freshwater fish that is unmatched. As people become enamored with the parrot, they often ask “How can I keep one?” and soon join the ranks of aquarists. Many eventually move onto all sorts of aquarium keeping. At the end of the day, that's the important thing: They get people interested in the aquarium. Give the parrot a chance; you won't regret it."

We can see this same dynamic with Flowerhorn -- purists will dish on them because of their hybrid status but if they actually ever owned one, I'd bet that 99% of them would assuredly change their perception of the fish quite dramatically.

The gist of my post was (and my opinion has not changed since 1st saw them in the early 90s) and now, is to point out that this is not a true species.
I believe some people think this fish just happened somewhere in a remote eden..
No, it was manipulated into being, no differently than balloon goldfish, or goo-fish, and in my book, is no different, kind of like auto tuning someone who can't sing in key.
If you don't care you are buying deformed, scrunched organ pseudo-cichlid no problem.
But if you think its some sort of natural species, think again

I am against anything human made to do with animal species/breeds/hybrids, whatever they call them to suite the agenda.
When you hybridize two pure bred animals you call it a "new breed" of some sort.. Then inbreed that "new breed" until the doom of days and you get some sickly inbred animal....

LOL, you mean these aren't a natural species? Are you guys high?

This is the Flowerhorn, Blood Parrots, and Other Hybrids section.

You do realize where you are, yes?
No one here cares what your personal philosophy is on hybrids, nor was that part of the OP's discussion.

The fish I showed a pic of isn't deformed, it doesn't have scrunched up organs, nor is it sickly. Hola.
That's exactly why I brought it home. It wasn't your typical BP.

But even it did, again, this is the hybrid section. If it bothers you fellas, don't look. :)
