Moving Fish Across Country,

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would run some sponge filters in my tank for a bit of time before I left to transfer. Get a food grade 55 gallon drum with locking lid. Bore some holes in the top and rig some battery operated air pumps. Secure the the drum in the truck with rope ratchets to a side wall...Do a 50 percent water change in North Carolina. A bit of stress guard and your golden.

That's a great point about running the sponge filters in his tanks a couple of weeks before departing and using them during the trip.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.
I have added sponge filters to my tank, they are taking up space but they will be ready.
Here is what I am going to do.
I am going to sell the 120 gallon all the fish are in. I'll get a 55 gallon or so and keep the fish that I am keeping in it temporaily until and after the move. Then once settled they will go in the 180.
So the plan is the day of the move net the fish into a big barrell or tub what ever I can find, add the sponge filters, battery operated air pumps and place in the truck. remove half water each day and replace with freshwater.
Hope it all goes smoothly. will videotape the entire thing just to see how I do and it could create a cool youtube video.

Keep an eye on your temps. Starts getting hot down south and it looks like you are planning your trip in the near future.
