The best way is to not feed mouse.
It's an unusual diet for oscars as they are mostly insect eaters.

It wasn't an intentional feeding. It came to sneak a drink out of the aquarium and fell in. With regard to the red Texas, one came to drink and he grabbed it by the face and yanked it in.

We live out in the boonies with a lot of deer mice, field mice, snakes, horned lizards and other assorted tiny creatures that sometimes find their way in. Usually it's through the dog door we installed because our elderly greyhound has trouble holding it if he can't get out to do his business right away. We solved one problem and created another. The cats have a great time chasing the intruders though.

Tanks are covered but they find all the little gaps where filter intakes, air tubing and heater cords go. They only need a tiny hole to stuff their heads in and grab a drink. We did have one tank that was uncovered for a short while and our cats also drank from it, just like the photo!

I should probably cross the aba off my list. It sounds like a really cool fish but we don't want our cats (or us) missing any body parts. I already have to watch myself feeding Dragon the silver Arowana. He is a very aggressive eater. He used to be lukewarm at feeding time, but now that he has Oscar buddies he has to do his Jaws impersonation if he wants anything to eat. This sometimes means coming right up out of the water to grab the goodies from me. His mouth is like a castle drawbridge. It's amazing, and more than a bit hazardous to one's fingers.

Wow, never had that happen but my family and guests used to love feeding my dovii large ants, some beetles, cockroaches, and small geckos from the backyard. I wasen't too on board with it but there was no stopping them half the time. "You this this big ole fish tank but we cant have any fun with it?"
