This is the buildup of Goo after only 2 days since washing. This is mostly algae and snail egg snot.

I'll let it go for about 4 weeks before it gets green and starts to slow down my drainage, but I check these tanks every day so I never worry about a overflow due to a clog.

I need to get 1 more pump.

My buddy at the local fish store told me he just got this pump in and had not sold one yet and it looks like a pretty neat pump.

It was more money but it was also more powerful being a 1050. It has National pipe threads and the construction looks fairly robust.

I'm going to hook it up right now and see how it works.

The other pump has already shipped and arives from chewy in 2 days.

Didnt address the second half sorry.

Your flow rate will depend on your drain configuration, power of the return pump, and head height of your system.

Youre gonna want a pump that will overperform your goal flow rate, and then use a valve or controller to limit the flow. Many people use 2 pumps for redundancy. I recommend a DC powered pump, as they are quieter, more controllable, and usually more reliable. Lots of people here like jebao DC pumps i think because of their price point. Go for a pump that is at least capable of 2000-3000 gph at 0' head height.
This ^

How many holes are in each overflow ? How big are they ?

You also have the option of slapping a gate valve on your 3/4 lines and using them as your drains while using the 1 inch line as an e drain depending on how much flow you go with. The return can be run over the back of the tank.

IMHO 3/4" drain = no drain
They clog soooo fast!
Yes an no. If someones using a valve to go full siphon the the opening is much smaller than a 3/4 inch pipe. But ido see your point. dAnother option would be to forget the e drain and use the 1 inch line as a main drain

Over the years I have increased my drain sizes and now I usually go no smaller than 1.5". It doesn't have to be schedule 40.

Well you can run four 1" drains with traditional bulkhead fittings. With good strainers you'll be fine. You can push 3500 GPH thru a 1" pipe (LOUD!) but gravity flow will net you 900 each pipe with the normal 3 turns and a valve.

3000 GPH flow could be nearly silent if nothing clogs. (good strainers)

BTW that pump from Chewy was on backorder, because all the MFKs bought 'em up. I canceled it and will buy a somewhat larger one.
