I just got a piece of shrimp to feed to my flower horn who was living happily in a well filtered 65 gallon tank with weekly water changes and perfect water quality. I showed him the peice of shrimp and he started freaking out wanting to chomp that thing down. He jumped up at the lid and I think he hit the brace. He freaked out with his fins twitching and now he is breathing heavy and just floating around right side up upside down and at the top and bottom of the tank. I don’t know what to do and need help

Sorry to hear this, I'm not very knowledgeable about medical issues/emergencies, perhaps others have better advice.

All I can really think to do is increase tank aeration (e.g. with air stone) and maybe add a bit of salt to help with his osmo-regulation. But it all depends on how hard he hit the brace -- unfortunately it's really 50/50 imho whether he'll recover, hope he does.

Thank you for the help he looks to be doing a bit better but I hope he pulls through. Definitely my best and favourite wet pet

That's good to hear, he could have just stunned himself. If possible you might consider to wrap that cross brace in a cut piece of yoga mat; I do it on all my Flowerhorn and Arowana tanks -- it blocks the light a bit but it'll help to soften any such hits somewhat. Hope his recovery continues nicely.

That sounds like a good idea. Thanks

Agree with others here. Sounds like a konk on the noggin. My Oscar dazed himself running into the glass when he was around 6".
