Haven't been by my favorite LFS on the island for a bit, went in today and in their main display tank they had 3 pretty massive Giant Gourami that recently came in. I was like 'Wow...' Can't say for sure but I'd guesstimate the biggest is about 22"-23", the other 2 maybe about 19"-20". The Flagtail is also one of the biggest I've seen in person as well, it's easily about 15"-16".
As you can see the GG are a bit roughed up (though the NAN lighting kinda makes the mostly superficial wounds look worse). I don't know for sure but my guess is that it's related to either the biggest one establishing its dominance in the new home, or maybe sustained during during the moving process. I was surprised at how cheap they are: 2,000 Thb (~US$65) each.
