Well If i can get the ammonia back down to 0 I’ll let the person feed them daily i’m only gone for a week i can do a water change when I get home but If the ammonia is still up by the time I leave i’ll let them know not to feed the fish
You should also portion out the food you want the person to feed your tank each day. You could even get them to feed every second or third day while you are away.

Doesn’t look like Prime caused a false positive for ammonia, just tested for it and 57572870-E268-49D4-ACC7-5B71E13E3361.jpeg ammonia is at about 0 maybe a bit over

If Prime is suppose to cause a false positive? does this test mean there’s no ammonia in the tank for the prime to latch onto?

This looks normal!!! Is this 24 hours later?

Have you tested your source water to see if there’s trace ammonia in the water you use for water changes?

Sometimes my tank shows .25ppm as well but it goes down to 0 quickly as the bb can take care of it.

this is less than 24 hours after I did a 50% water change after seeing the ammonia spike to .50ppm after adding new fish. saw .50 ppm did 50% change last night dosed with prime and now today this afternoon tested again and it looks all good. I will test tap water for ammonia and let you know shortly

The ammonia spike is likely due to the new fish. Good for you for catching it and completing a water change.

You might see your ammonia spike several times over the next few days to a week or at least until the bb can catch up.

Once your bb catch up and you are constantly testing 0 you can add the next group of fish, I wouldn’t expect this to happen until you are back from your vacation

Alright sounds good I was originally planning on daily 50% water changes but it looks like I no longer need to. Tap water tested negative for any ammonia 0 ppm so the spike yesterday must have been from the fish. Will continue to test daily and do WCs when needed

I’ve never had this issue, but both my jewel and JD can’t seem to figure out that there are pellets floating at the surface for them, they stick to the bottom and never think of going to top to eat. When i threw in some flakes for the danios and barbs the jewel went crazy on the flakes as they sank but the JD did not eat as I believe he is still pretty stressed, (Jewel is a big meanie to the JD). Will these guys eventually figure out to come to the top to feed or should i buy a sinking food

It’s been 60 hours since my last water change and Prime has worn off by now and tests are still reading at 0/0/5. Does that mean my filter has caught up?
