Bought a peacock bass from Walmart to rescue it after buying an Ocellaris from the local fish store less than an hour before. Have been trying to figure out what species but I have no clue. Sorry for the quality but he has been hiding almost the whole time and comes out for a few seconds if I’m lucky.

well thats not an species of the cichla genus at all. thats an african peacock. in other words an aulonocara sp. if you bought an ocellaris from another lfs then this african malawi cichlid will end up as dinner for the ocellaris eventually.

I knowwww, I’m stupid lol. It’s not my fault they didn’t have any kind of information besides peacock bass though. Haha.

Well then you should enlighten them that they sell african rift lake cichlids as an south american monster sized cichlid.

Well, it's an african peacock, and since cichlids are members of the genus "perciformes" you can (with a lot of fantasy) say it's a peacock bass ;-)

But the only thing it has to do with Cichla (besides being a cichlid) is: It's lunch for cichla
