I have a spare 60 gallon that I’ve been using sort of as temporary housing for fish from my other tanks that aren’t working out. I usually rehome these. I seem to have found a good balance in my other tanks now. So, the 60 now has a Texas and tbar that were to aggressive for their respective tanks, I was going to rehome one of them and keep the other, but apparently they’re spawning. So my question is, do they pair for life or will the Texas turn on the tbar at some point? They’re both 3” and the tbar is the female . I would like to keep them both as cool odd couple, but the tbar is the absolute keeper.

I doubt a 60 gallon is large enough to pair for life, because at 3" they are still very young, and have a lot of growing to do.
That said female sajica. use a lot of energy when spawning young, which "may"inhibit growth.
And a Herichthys male, depending on which species has lots of growing to do.
Sajica below, male upper, the female lower is about 3" in the pic.

A half grown Herichthys carpintus, male below, at full size he was about twice the size

at full size he was about twice as big, twice as thick and another 3rd taller

I agree with Duane, a 60 gallon is going to be a tight fit for an adult "texas" in spawning mode.

Thanks, I could always get something bigger for them if need be, do you think as a spawning pair they’re compatible? I mean, I know there’s a big size difference as adults, so do you think the Texas could decide to kill the tbar one day or do they mate for life?

It's really a toss of the coin, it could go either way.

The only problem to me, is that the fry will be hybrids, if they survive, and to me are only good to be used as feeders. Having another unidentifiable mutt added to the plethora of mutts flooding the scene is problematic.
If you wanted to keep a few just to see what they turn out to be is OK, but taking them somewhere to be distributed only adds to the mess the cichlid hobby is already in.

That’s not a bad idea, I’m gonna need healthy feeders for my predator tank when they get bigger, but I’ll definitely have to keep a couple fry, seen some Texas/convicts and they were nice, so I imagine a tbar/Texas should be amazing
