This looks ridiculous. Yesterday he was fine. Today I look at him and he looks like a boxer after a fight. Is this a disease of some sort? He is my 3rd flowerhorn over the course of a year.

I am not a medical expert or even close, so I hope others more knowledgeable will soon give their input -- but it looks like Duck Lips, which as kno4te says is a strain of columnaris.

I've never had a fish afflicted with it but from what I understand it's a quite serious and fast acting disease, esp. treated quickly. Hopefully some fellow members will give some good advice, but in the meantime I suggest to watch this video to learn more about it and how to treat it and then decide what to do based on this info and what others may contribute here. If it is Duck Lips, time is of essence.

I keep some Zedrix Sword on hand as advised in the video just in case anything like this arises, but he also mentions other treatments with Epsom salt (which I also keep on hand) as well as Furan 2, & Kanaplex, I personally don't know which of these is best and/or safest.

+1. On the duck lips looking. Salt 1 tsp per g x 3 8hours apart. Can use kanamycin and furan2.

Had to deal with Columnaris once very contagious. My Cichlid died a couple days after. Lower your water temperature asap.

Ok I took the heater out. I live in Texas so the water is waterever the house room temperature is. I think 70 degrees.

Put in some metroplex and have to wait until tomorrow for kanaplex and fura. There are other fish in this 100 gallon tank so I lowered the water volume level to a fresh 40 gallons after today's water change. I am treating the entire tank.

This does look bad. The meds wont be here until tomorrow. I am not sure how he got it I just remember last week my parrot fish beat him up badly so I moved him to another tank with my other weaker cichlids. Then this morning his lips are like a balloon. His wounds looked like they were healing up yesterday.
