Fish growing too fast! Tank health?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
THAT'S IT!
I went to my Amazon account to see what I bought.
"API NITRITE TEST KIT"
Thanks. I am so glad I posted with a little detail, so you could catch it.
Thanks again.
Water change, water change, water change.....

Ya nitrite is blue on the API test. A 0 reading would indicate the tank is most likely cycled, your nitrates are probably sky high however.

John, I know you can find someone in rural Texas that can weld you a new stand from scratch. I've been welding since highschool, but I'm too far away to help.

If you'll be moving soon I don't understand why you're setting up tanks now. I moved ten tanks (5 to 55g) from various rooms, all to one room in the back, while we remodeled the whole house. OMG what a job.

See the crowbar? Moving and leveling . . .

I have two 55's with those steel stands, now running sumps below, and they are inexpensive, but IMO borderline on racking resistance due to thin metal. I restrained mine to the walls in case of earthquake.

I am not setting up any new tanks before the move. I set my 75g up before I knew we were moving. I have been breaking down tanks since I found out about the move and giving some fish away. I am wanting to just focus on my tilapia and my shrimp aquarium. I thought I was downsizing, until I found out how fast the tilapia grow and reproduce! I am thinking about setting up two 55g plastic barrels I have if I need to, until I get moved. That is how I was planning on moving the tilapia. I can put the barrels on a pallet and move them with forks on my tractor.
They are working on the house we are moving into already. There is a possibility we will be in the house much sooner (first of Sep.)
I am crossing my fingers.
I am in a panic trying to care for the fish and keep the water safe. Water change, water change, water change... For now.
The house we are moving into has well water. That will be easy to set up an auto water change system. No chemicals in the water.

If your concerned about nitrates and how high they are, you can do a 50% water change today (that will cut the NA in half) then tomorrow do another 50% change, and again another 50% change on the third day. If your NA’s are at a whopping high of 180ppm these three water changes will get it down in the 20ppm range without stressing your fish.

I must do this!
