My natural style tanks and biotopes thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The large-finned ones are the worst for laying about the tank all day. They will QUICKLY get constipated from too much food, because they don't ever swim much unless being chased/chasing. Then they bloat up and die slowly.

Not good with plecos either IME. Not good with any fish or food that can pollute the water quickly, because they have very weak gills. In fact I will never keep a betta with another fish, except for conditioning & breeding. It always seems detrimental.

I feed the micro-wafers and tiny pellets, in small amounts, twice a day. Frozen bloodworms before breeding.

Heidi nearly died in the betta sorority, because she chased off her sisters and hogged the food. When I cut back on the food and tried target feeding she just ate her sisters. All six, eventually were killed or removed and died. What a little pig!

Change of plans regarding my betta. I decided that the small 18 inch tank was not quite big enough for my liking.
I've decided to keep my betta in my 4 foot tank. I will get some female betta to join him along with some more amano shrimp.
I'm also tempted to add a rabbit snail but not decided yet.
The small 18 inch tank I think I will set up as a biotope for a few vampire crabs. I may change my mind but for now they are favourite.

What else is in the 4 ft now

Bit over stocked isn't it.
Look forward to see how it develops.
Yeah I think I may keep it that way. More shrimps and a few female bettas and I will leave it at that. Planning on a lot of decor for the scape.

Sounds good, lots you could do with the scape with such a small amount of livestock.
