Jaguar cichlid pectoral fin damage

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Jags looking good. Post progress in this thread or create a new thread dedicated to its growth. How big is the jag in these last pics? I think it looks more like a female at this point.

Thank you, I appreciate it! The jags about 4-4.5 inches currently. I figured the coloration looked female, but have been waiting to vent until it reaches 6 inches. I've been told they can take female colors on when they are not the tank boss. I have a 12 inch pleco in the tank and he definitely slams the jag hen they get into it lol. So he really ain't the boss yet, can not nip at his fins when he tries to get in his rocks. I'll give the jag some time and may create a new post when it grows some more. Thanks again!!

Been a long time but got somewhat of an update. She's been getting bigger slowly but surely, at about 7 inches right now. I bought a king's crown java fern for the feeder guppy tank and was wondering if i could get some feedback on if I'm planning to do the right thing.

The plant was 50% off from some browning as u can see in the image. I put it in yesterday, and plan to have the light on half the day and off at night to avoid over-lighting it as it is already browning. any other advise? the guppies produce a good amount of waste lol

I removed as much of the gel that was on the plants roots when i bought it. Did not want to destroy its roots

I recently rescued a male jag 12" that was beaten to hell. I had to offer money so the owner would let me take him home. Missing scales, torn lip, HITH, cloudy eyes etc. He has a big chunk missing on his dorsal fin which I'm hoping will grow back? I've heard that the boney spin part once damaged won't repair? Anyone confirm please?
