I quite enjoyed the read...I’m quite disappointed that there never was a pic...

It does actually make you stop and think about the fish you have in your own aquarium and wha their true size potential could be if not restricted by diet, tank size, and water changes....I’d love for my ebjd to get over 12 inches....one can dream....but pics will be posted if it ever happens bc ***pics or it didn’t happen***

When people are on a higher than average level regarding knowledge then it's normal for people to doubt them and pick at them, normally it stops when they've proven themselves but Rd has had to put up with it continuously. I believe it is because of the fact that this is not the "real world" where you can speak to someone face to face and hear the difference in their voice and actively know that they are of a higher level. That and the constant stream of people flowing into the site that aren't aware of the previous posts made my Rd and assume he's a one shot wonder regarding the post they saw and now the fact that younger people are joining and we tend to not be as respectful as we should towards others.
Anyway, this was an excellent read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it so thank you Rd for bumping it. I'm going to book mark it along with the other thread linked to in here about clown loaches..

Lots of pics & threads over the years posted here and elsewhere showing large adult specimens, males & females. Such as in this thread, that I linked to earlier on.

Unfortunately, unlike the fish referred to in the opening post, most have not been accurately measured with a tape, and are mostly just eye balled and approx. size given. The pic posted above by Viktor, was I believe owned by greenterra greenterra Brent also posted in Balton's thread linked to above.

IME beyond the basic care needs, and of course genetics, IME the largest restriction on maximizing fish in this hobby, is that most hobbyists do not keep the same fish for 10+ years, so that fishes maximum is typically never experienced by the person posting in these discussions. As I recall that large male festae posted by greenterra in the pic that thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter posted was removed from its tank once it matured due to aggression issues, as he had an all male set up, and that fish didn't comm well. Where did it end up, how large did it get, and how old did it live to, is anyone's guess. That seems to be a very common theme on most forums.
