Hi guys. I noticed one of my angels has a bump on her belly. I thought about bloating but i'm not sure since i was told the scales would stick out it that was the case. So i thought it might be about to lay eggs.

I didn't see it eat yesterday and just hovers near the air stone. It occasionally briefly moves around the tank but always goes back to the air stone

Any idea? 20190923_213527.jpg20190923_213525.jpg20190923_213514.jpg

Generally Angelfish will clean a large flat surface to then lay on.
Have you seen any behaviour like this? It'd probably look like its pecking the same leaf etc.

Well it does look like it likes that plant. I'll observe more closely when I get home.

Is the loss of appetite part of the spawning behaviour? I also noticed since a few days that the black veil angel is rather close. they used to defend their territories quite vehemently. If I had a sure way to know if they are males or females would be great.?

Honestly I have no idea.

My information comes from my mothers pair of angelfish that spawned twice.
You might want to try reading up on sexing your 2 fish to see if theres a pair, though methods are not 100% reliable.

So since yesterday not much has changed. Fish is still hovering over the air stone. The swelling of its tummy didn't get worst which I take as a good sign. I did notice 2 things. First it would only leave its spot when it's dark and secondly, though it will not come out to eat, it did eat whatever food that floated its way.

How is the breathing fast or slow? Also would like to add that sometimes a female will lay eggs without a male. Like stated earlier look for cleaning behavior.

What do you think? Doesn't look like gasping for air to my untrained eye.

Also looks like a piece of its right pectoral fin is missing so perhaps i'm facing a case of bullying? There is another golden angelfish with whom it used to headbutt. But most of the time they just hang out in their own corner of the aquarium

So I did something a tad radical: i shift the aquarium decor a bit. This made him move off from his corner and in the same time, search for food. The bump did not change much (if at all) this morning but doesn't seem to be getting worst. I did not see any excessive cleaning taking place neither so i'm guessing the behaviour is a mix of maybe mild illness (since he still looks for food. just not actively) and bullying from the other angel fish... I've put some melafix in the water.

And my friends are like "why are you so upset over a fish?"?

How many Angelfish do you have? If the bulge hasn't gone down I suggest isolating Angel and add Epsom Salt. Also bullying can be stressful.

4. 2 goldens, a black and a marble. The black and marble are chill

He started swimming around again this afternoon and the bulge seems a bit flatter.

What dosage of epsom salt do you recommend?
