I have two spare 29g tanks I was going to use one for my heavily stocked 125 and one for my sons taps/peacock 90. I was feeling unsure if 29g would be large enough for my 125. To fit anything larger I will have to empty the 125 and drop in a tank and that seems very overwhelming for some of my fish.

29 seems small to me but you already have them so if you decide to go for it I would probably forgo baffles and just have a single chamber

i think this is on the small side when you account for water drain back in to the sump. i like to air on the side of caution and would want at least 10 gallons of room for over flow so that's only 20 gallons. will it work yes but if possible go bigger. you will be adding 15-20-% more water to your system. would it be possible to put 2 29 gallons under there and connect them with a bulk head. i have a 3/4 inch bullhead on my sump as close to the top as i can get it and then i just put a cheap plastic tote with another bulkhead next to it connected with a short run of PVC pipe this way i can run my water level higher and when the power goes out any extra water will just go in to the tote. look at frag tanks i think they make great sumps that is what i got is an 80 gallon frag tank for my sump.

You could go with 2 29s on the 125 for a dual sump setup.

Ideally, if you could find an old 75 that would be the best. Fits right underneath a 125. What kind of stand are you working with?

I don’t think fluidizes is worth all the work and the extra money running The air stone. For what you’re going to pay for media just get some MP blocks
