My flowerforn colour and peral question??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Try putting a black background on your tank (e.g. future board), it will likely help, as will feeding Hikari Bloodred Parrot+ 2-3 times a week.

As others have said, your fish is red dragon, "super" red dragon is more or less a marketing name, though I wouldn't rule out having a bit of Kamfa blood (hence nicer pearling and smaller kok) -- it's getting harder and harder to tell nowadays because their mixing up the lines so much. Anyway, nice fish, enjoy.
Thanks your answer will try put a black background and see

What are the difference between Red dragon and SRD thanks

Super is marketing term but usually means higher quality (bigger kok).

Also I am really not sure about black background. I saw opposite posts in past, advising against it. Just try it out if you want, just don't make it permanent till you are sure. Mirror technique is a good idea.

I'm not basing my advice regarding black backgrounds on what I saw in other posts, I'm basing it on experience :) -- and experimenting with many different colors over many years. But yes, good advice not to make it permanent, which is why using future board is a good idea, it's very easy to change colors and experiment what you and your fish like best.

Black background, is this fish red enough? :)

Your fish is gorgeous, is that yours?

Experimenting is good. I think should be isolated though (just one change at a time) .

I’m my opinion and experience. Color, fins, body shape, Kok... Is all genetics.

Genetics are certainly most important in all the categories you list, but I personally wouldn't go so far as to say genetics are the only thing that affect a FH's appearance: particularly with color and kok size these can be affected/manipulated to at least some degree by care (e.g. feed profile) and environmental factors (such as background/substrate color, even water temperature).

Cram a FH into too small of a tank with white background and white substrate and you'll never see its true potential colors/kok size.

To some degree yes. But that is minimal. I can take a high quality flowerhorn and feed him trout or koi pellets. He will always look better in color and kok size than a lower grade flowerhorn fed on the best diets. With no background and a bare tank. In fact I’d put up a quality flowerhorn in a white tank with white substrate with junk feed in a 55 gallon... against a low quality in prime conditions (like a 180 gallon by itself) with prime pellets and even live feed and the high quality will still look way better. Too small of a tank? Is a problem... Can’t run a quality fish in a ten gallon. Lol. Genetics make all the difference. Can’t have a MP without the genetics.
