Geophagus Surinamensis

Hello, new member here! I have a question about geophagus surinamensis....

I have 4 small ones, about 2-3 in each, and I have currently placed them in a 35 gallon tank with a juvenile polypterus endlicheri (2-3 inch), 4 smal SAE and 4 small ancistrus. So all fish are very small in size. I have planned two 50% water changes per week and 3 times a day feeding. Would they be able to grow enough in the 35 gallon tank to be able to rehome them in the 220 g with an asian arowana (she is still young about 12 inch) or should I abandon the project? If I put them in there right away I guess they will be eaten immediatelly and I have only these 2 tanks. I would be happy if they could reach 5-6 inches or more.

Welcome aboard

Yes the Arowana would probably eat the Geo's and Endli at that size. I personally would grow out the Geophagus Surinamensis until they got to atleast 6 inches or more. Wouldn't add the Endlicheri until it was around 10 inches . Please be prepared to remove fish if Asian Aro starts harassing any of the Geophagus or the Endlicheri. Also like to add if possible grow out the Geophagus and Endli in a larger aquarium if possible.

There is a general rule with any Polypterus if it can fit in there mouth they will eat it. Keep Endlicheri well Fed.
 
I would worry about the Siamese algae eaters and the bristlenose plecos once the endli gets bigger.

There is only a 220 and a 35 gallon and no more room in the house for tanks! However, previously I have tried to grow an oscar and then a green terror in this tank and they had grew quite big until they moved, so that's why I thought I could give it a try.
