Severum in 3ft tank ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did Malawi cichlids for some years and found it often takes some tinkering to achieve/maintain a peaceful tank-- so my theory was if things are going well don't make changes without a good reason (like too many of a species reaching adult size, wanting to try a new species, etc.) My experience with severums is they appreciate a larger tank. They themselves are more peaceful in a larger tank. My opinion, but not a cosmic truth, is if he's doing okay in the larger tank I'd leave him there-- an occasional chase is normal for most cichlids.

I like Gourami Swami's advice and agree on the convicts. Don't know if something like a rainbow cichlid would work, they're smaller than a severum, less aggressive than a convict. I've done 50 gal tanks and the question is whether two roughly similar size/shape cichlids of different species will work with the limited length to the tank. Sometimes it does, sometimes not, another case where it helps to have an option for changing things if something doesn't work.

...From photos I've seen, Jersey looks nice, don't know what kind of weather you get, but I'm a fan of rocky coastline. :)

Sorry guys for such a late reply but I was really busy.
So i skiped the plan of adding Severum, he stayed with malawis and Jack.
At the moment I have 7 baby dwarf rainbows, 1 baby EBA and 4 clown loaches (temporary) and a 3in pearl gourami.
Do you think a can put any more fish in there? Will any other schooling fish be ok? Or maybe is better to add just couple more rainbows?
Or mayby there is anyother centerpiece fish which could live with acara? Mayby apistogramma? Or geaphagus (I know thay getting huge so probably not).
Thanks for all input ..

You said baby so I’m assuming these fish are small and probably the tank doesn’t look very full.
In a few months these fish will grow and you will be quite stocked I think.
I wouldn’t add anything else and just enjoy watching these mature.
I think you made a wise choice skipping the severum.

I have one more question.
Do you think I could add to this tank electric blue Jack dempsay? So it would be EBA + 7 dwarf rainbows + loaches + gourami?
I have other tanks so if neccesery I could move rainbows and gourami somewher else.
And like I said I will look for new home to those loaches.

Best approach..... rehome that TV, who needs a TV with a sevrum tank anyway ? Use the extra room made to max out the water space.... never need to ask this question again. Seems like theres plenty of space there. Isn't a wall mount kit for the tV the cheapest option and never have to jeopardise the life of a fish? Seem logical to me

Thanks for tip? Unfortunately flowers on the other end have to stay.

That's a really bad reply man .... :(
Oh apologize then...
It meant to be funny..
I found your interior design tips really funny, specially that wall mount bit?
And now, being series and logical - that picture with a bit of extra room on the sides of my tank doesn't mean that I have space for doubling size of this tank.
I have 350l malawi on opposite and Im not living in mansion ?
