I have a red dragon flowerhorn he was beautiful red . this morning he turned a grayish purple. I checked his ph and it wa below 6. I don’t understand how that happened. I did have a plant that was starting to rot but still had some green leaves I was wondering If that could be the cause of it. I have now been correcting his ph it is now bet 6.8 and 7. his color is back however he just rests on the bottom near a corner. He has a ravenous appetite and will swim if he thinks he is being fed. Since this incident I have discovered he has tiny white spots on his head. He did not have these specs last night. What could be wrong. I’m really attached to him and don’t want him to die. Any help will be great. Thanks

I Change water every week about 25%. All other parameters are good. The problem is I had an Anubis plant n there that was dying on some spots and new growth in middle. I had it in a clay pot because he would rip it out of substrate. I have since removed it. I now have a ph of 6.4 and I have tried to raise it, first by water change but my tap water that I have in a big bucket is about 6.8. Then I have added proper ph powder not the full dose just gradually and it still is at 6.4. My fish is lythargic and his color purplish again. Earlier his color was getting red again. i also noticed he has tiny white specs on his head which he didn’t have before. It might be ich I’m not sure. Any ideas what I can do to save my fish.

Trust me you are not the only person to do this. We need the truth to help you, maybe your idea of fine isnt fine but you dont know that. Or maybe it is fine but we dont know you know.....you know? i finally got his ph good. His color is improving. He had ich which seems to have subsided. The only thing is he is still hanging in the bottom near the corners but comes up to eat and swims around. His color is back somewhat. How long can it take for him to recover from stress. I have had him for 5 months, everything was great until a plant in the tank started to rot and drop his ph.
What is your KH? When the pH is unstable like that, it is usually caused by a KH that is too low.
