What is the difference between crossbreed and hybrid?
Answer: Generally “crossbreed” is used to refer to the breeding of different breeds of domestic animals that belong to the same species; that is, a crossbred dog or chicken or cow is 100% dog or chicken or cow, but was produced by crossing individuals of different recognized breeds. “Hybrid” is ...www.quora.com
What exactly is the difference? Your taking 2 different species to create either version, crossbreed or hybrid. Unless you are referring to breeding relatives ie brother, sister to keep a certain strain alive.
No you got it right. My understanding is cross breeding is two subspecies of the same genera.
For instance breeding Hypostomus Luteus with Hypostomus Margarita.
They are both of the Hypostomus species but different subspecies.
Where Hybrid would be breeding Panaque Cochliodon with Hypostomus Luteus. Or a lion bred with a Tiger. Or a Horse and a donkey. Completely different species.
If I understand it right technically breeding two Potamotrygon ie: Leo and Hen for instance is a Crossbreed.
But breed Potamotrygon with Paratrygon Aiereba ( Ceja Stingray) which would lead to mostly being sterile.
So I would think technically most what we call hybrid in the stingray world is a crossbreed. But it is likely just simantics.
But what do I know. LOL. I read a big write up once with people debating it and links. I likely got some of the termonology wrong.
