Yeah probably got into it with the Oscar. I would definitely recommend getting some natural colored sand in the bottom tho (no gravel). They love to dig and push the sand around, and I know with mine atleast they tend to get stressed if they have nothing to do all day long.
Mine loves gravel and digging nests.
This was a couple weeks ago while in his 20L grow out.

Very nice looking lil guy there. Only reason I recommended sand was because I've always been told not to use gravel, with cichlids, for the risk of choking or impaction in the bowels. Same with goldfish and koi, with marbles, and how they have to mouth everything in the tank.

Nah must be bad luck. All a roll of the dice. It's like with us eating, we can choke. I've had numerous Cichlid and never had this issue.

Agreed. Better to be safe than sorry. If you find gravel to be risky, by all means avoid it.
Yeah I know I've lost allot of fish in the past, mostly by my own mistakes. I am definitely better tho then when I first started that's for sure lol. But even after 13 years I still make mistakes from time to time. No matter how old ya get, your always still learning new things.
