30 gallon

Could do a pair of Honduran red points, pair of kribs, a group of shellies, pair of rams and some dithers, single acara maybe, piar of apistogramma, gourami community, giant betta community (single male with tank mates), single angelfish if the tank is tall enough, single male convict, single Roman numeral cichlids (not seen often), single female t-bar.

In no way am i suggesting all of these fish together.

Basically if you want a single fish you want to aim for about the 4 inch range. Smaller if you want other fish with it.

maybe a community tank with bumblebee catfish, 2 or 3 bigger gold gouramis, and like 5 yellow cobra guppies and have like a yellow theme to it. get some caves, driftwood, and maybe live or fake plants to make it pop

Edit: and some rocks also

I have thought about puffers but don't know anything about brackish fish and how they are to take care of.
There’s plenty of freshwater puffers for a 30 gallon. I would recommend a dwarf red eye puffer. You could possibly have more than one.... maybe

For puffers, definitely the smaller dwarf species would be the better choice, as C.Asellus even with crunchy diet has been known to get overgrown teeth which requires manual trimming...

They also tend to prefer being in groups of 3 or more, so a 30G maybe pushing it a bit...

Try looking into C.Irrubessco or C.Loreti puffers if you want something a little different from your regular dwarf puffer usually seen around the LFS...
