Does anyone else have this issue with hikari gold sinking pellets, and if so can reccomend another type of food that doeant stink?

I know if uneaten food is left in the tank it will smell, however my fish leave nothing left and devour everything within a minute or two.

I have a nice big display tank in the living/media room and its embarrassing when i feed my fish and visitors come over as it stinks out the place and my wife non stops winge about it.

I stopped feed Massivore pellet for that very reason and my wife would complain every time.

I also stopped feeding massivore pellets for this reason. I went to Hikari Cichlid Gold mini sinking pellets and haven’t had any stink problems no matter how much I feed. I Have smaller fish now though so I can get away with the smaller pellet size. (Loaches, geos, plecos)

The hikari gold sinking pellets is the exact type im having problems with. I use the larger size as i keep rays, gars and large cichlids.

Over the past 8 yrs ive only used hikari gold (sinking or floating) and never had any issues regarding smell, but lately they have been stinking out my house something terrible.

I used to feed Hikari Carnisticks and switched to NLS for the same reason. Yes NLS has a strong odor when you open the bottle, but it don't stink up the water or room.

The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with pellet size if you’re having trouble with the larger pellets. When I was feeding hikari carnivore sinking pellets, they didn’t smell like massivore did. Now that I’m using mini pellets, I get no smell, while you do with larger pellets..

I too am a former massivore user. Pretty much same issue, the water stink was just too much.

If you are looking for pretty large sinkers then Northfin makes a Jumbo (4mm & 6mm)and larger Carnivore pellet (10mm) that seem to not stink up the water. Also you could try NLS, but the sinking pellets Im thinking are the garlic ones. Not sure if they would have an issue or not. NLS also has a larger carnivore sinker too.

I'm pretty sure garlic would smell better then fish food any day.
Personally I have never used the massivore stuff. I always use the hikari gold large floating pellets. Never had problems with any unusual smell but I would recommend the NLS brand. I hear allot of good things about NLS.
