Pretty confident that he is a male but I dont see a this much black fins on males very often, though its depending on mood, sometimes he's all green and yellow, size reference is about 4inches

Your looks male to me. Another pic of a mature pair. You can see the black in the females dorsal clearly. Hope this helps.
Thanks guys for the replys, I've thoroughly enjoyed him for two months I've had him, I've always kept sa/ca cichlids but he has more personality than any juvenile cichlid ilvr kept. I really want to find him a mate, especially since trimacs seem to be so rare in my area. Now I feel alittle better about getting him a female. Hopefully I'll have Rio sarabia trimac fry in my lfs in a year or so
I've never seen a trimac with the red going so far up the sides of the fish before. I'm referring to the female. Looks like a low grade flowerhorn. But I know how against flowerhorns you are. updated picture! Red is coming in more often and is steadily putting on size! I have ordered 2 6inch females from cichlids of America, hopeful will get a winner out of one of them!
