What do you all think about a Flagtail, this one... Flagtail Prochilodus Semaprochilodus taeniurus
Again, is this fish skittish and how would it do solo/ not in a group of them? (since I know they get big)

Yup they get big. I hear it's hit or miss on them sucking on poly slime coats. They don't seem skittish. I like the idea of giant danios. Don't rule them out, they look nice too. What kind of polys? Another thought is African red eye tetras. They are awesome looking, fearless and I think way better looking then the other silver choices. They get a max of 4" which could be good or bad depending on your polys.

I thought the giant danios were nice, I watched a few you tube videos and they seem to stay at the top of the water column and school together, I am considering them. I do wish they grew just a bit bigger, like may be 6" instead of 4".

For the polys... I have 2 CB teugelsi. 1 CB endli. and 2 CB senegalus all of which are small right now, 3-5" or so.

Oh. Well then stick to the danios once they start getting eaten it won't hurt the pocket so bad. Polys grow pretty quick up to a point. My teugs were 18" in about 2 years. At about 10" they will be able to eat the danios. Heck actually my dels ate my giant danios at around 8". So maybe no giant danios or red eye tetras.
What about adult Columbian tetras? Those grow pretty quickly have a pretty deep body. Probably still get eaten.

If smaller fish will end up being a snack maybe you could go with a few veiltail angelfish. Their bodies don't get as massive as the tin foil barbs but their fins make them look just as big. Doubt the polys will see them as a snack. Or, since your original question was asking about tin foil barbs, go with them and know that in a year you'll probably have to rehome most of them. You might be able to keep a few of them with plenty of water changes.

Congo tetras would also be a good choice. They get large enough for bigger cichlids to leave alone and are a beautiful fish. They are also not skittish if kept in a larger group.

Yeah but it's not cichlids they are going in with. They will be snacks.
Just saying any fish is basically going to end up a snack at this point but some are more outgoing than others. Had a bunch of Congo’s with a group of 10”+ frontosa and did just fine. Again a cichlid I know but at times just as ferocious as some of the other fish I’ve kept. They would be a beautiful snack at least ?

With those larger polys most of those "dithers" will become snacks. Anything under 5" in a longer bodied fish will probably get eaten. Need to find deeper bodied fish even then it will be a gamble. The problem with things like tinfoil Barb's and sds are they will rule the roost so to speak and make life hell for the polys but they are probably a better choice since it's unlikely they will get eaten. Unfortunately your polys will probably suffer, as both those other fish are gluttonous, aggressive and skittish. The reason for dithers is to make other fish feel at ease and therefore come out more. If your dithers are skittish and freak out it will have the opposite effect. Also you don't want to cause your polys to freak out they are little muscle missiles and can really move when frightened, quite possibly causing them to jump and/or hit something with enough force to die.
