Black or Albino arowan

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Personally I prefer the black aro over the albino. Only downside to a black aro is they don't develop color till they are nearly full grown.
How does a black arowana look when it goes old? Some one told me that its scales look like a silver arowan?

I was leaning towards a albino silver arowana since they are the cloest look to a asian arowana.

A black aro should turn out to look like a silver just with a black outline or fully black. And I would have to agree that, if your after the Asian look, the albino would be the closest. Unless your feel like shelling out some extra $ to go for a jardini aka Australian arowana.

I had a jardini 10+ years and it looked amazing.

But isnt a albino silver more than a Jardini? Also would love to add it to the tank but the last time I had one with tank mates, it almost killed everyone.

Not certain. Very possible depending on size I would assume. I've seen them online being sold at around $200 for a 4in but I've also seen jardini being sold at that same size and price before. I guess it would just depend on where or who ya get it from.

Um not to be rude but an albino silver looks like a silver with white scales and red eyes. It doesn’t look anything like an asian. These have come down from a typical $500 to a typical $200 for a 4-6” fish in most stock lists and lfs- that I have seen

a jardini looks similar to an asian but good luck trying to keep it with any tank mates. These typically are about 60-80$ for a 6” fish depending on who you know or where you order. Not very pricey at all. Just slightly more than a regular silver.

Blacks look remarkably similar to a silver just with a black(ish) body and orange-red around the fins also looks nothing like an asian. Good luck finding these they are pretty rare. I have only seen them for sale at similar prices as the albinos. Seems Grae are less common than the binos these days. I hear they are becoming endangered but that info may be outdated.

I know that they dont look like asian arowans but what I was aimming towards was their color.

But in your view, which arowana looks the best?

Asian. But I assume you are in the us so that is a no go. Lol.

if I were to pick of a black or albino, I would do albino. I love binos, always have since I was a kid. I don’t even really like the shape/ look of silvers tbh but I would own a bino silver if I had the chance.

but it’s more about what you want to own really. Don’t base your decision on what I like. You do you bro. ??

Weird never had any of my lfs sell a jardini for any less then $180 for a 3in fish. Of course this is coming from a store that charges $80 for a silver at only 5in. I wish I could get an aro but I need a far bigger tank the just an 80gal. Maybe once I get my 2,000 built but I'd still probably only get a black aro and a handful of other fish species.
