Good Afternoon Everyone,

I'm a new member and I'm hoping to grow my knowledge on fish keeping specially bichir.

I have some questions regarding the stockings of senegal bichirs.

1. Does a 50 gal tank will be sufficient for a fully grown senegal bichir?

2. If yes, it is acceptable if I make it 2 bichirs?

3. I read somewhere that 3 or more bichirs on a tank is better instead of having just 2. What are your opinions on this?

Welcome to mfk! A 50g would be fine for even 5 sens. They rarely exceed 9” and are pretty lazy. Or you could do 3 sens and 2 delhezi

I have a juvenile albino senegal bichir in my 75 and he's pretty active circling the tank all the time:ROFL: I'd Stick with maybe 2 or 3 in a 50

My experience with Captive Bred Senegalus are that they are pretty active I also have a Delhezi That's active also.
I have 3 Senegal Polys in a 55 gallon. The only time I've observed any aggressive behavior is when the male is trying to spawn with the female. The males get nippy and chase occasionally during spawning time.

Thank you for all your replies. I really appreciate it.

I think I will keep 3 bichir to provide more swimming space.

There is one more thing I want to ask. Does the substrate's color affects the bichir coloration?

I read that red substrate make the color more vibrant(Don't know it this was the right term)

Can you share your thoughts about this one?

Substrate coloring affects those with patterns and color other than tan. Your proposed captive bred senegals won't get affected that much by red garnet or simple tan sand due to their normal color variation.

Thanks for the info. Thought it applies to all types of bichir.
