75 lake malawi cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you're going to try all male, I would try to end up with 12, maybe 15 fish. Stick to fish that stay around 6-7", I wouldn't try venustus in a 75. They get big and pretty chunky and dont mind throwing their weight around.

Look into small haps like P. Electra, O. Lithobates, O. Tetrastigma. You can try peaceful mbuna too, like yellow labs and ps. Acei.

If you decide on mixed gender only do one people species. The females mostly look the same and the males will breed with whoever is available.
Ill probably end up doing gmixed gender as ill be buying everything from my lfs,

Just make sure to get fish that have females that look completely different. A nice tank would be p. electra, german red peacock, c. Azureus, and yellow labs. This would give you red, blue, green and yellow.
and i can have like 20 if mixed gender right

I think 20 would be crowded.
Is your local store a chain?
or do they label fish accordingly?

20 could work just stay on top of maintenance. Besides the labs, you would only have 3 other fish with color. The females would all be brown/silver.

The Morning The Morning brought up a good point, make sure you buy from somewhere that labels and knows what they are selling.

If anyone knows where to get true Petricola, send me a PM...I have been unsucessful for many years. First I ended up buying fish after fish that was sold as true Petricola and ended up being Synodontis tanganaicae (per Planet Catfish).

Lucipinnis are fine if you just want the cats. Multipunctatus are better for fry patrol. In either case IME 5 individuals is the magic number to get max activity and min aggression.

Agree to avoid loaches...I have researched even some of the smaller loaches and although they can survive, it did not seem to be a thrive situation for the loaches to be with Malawi or Tang or Victorians.
