Quality Aquatics has them occasionally at the price point I mentioned. Not that I have to justify myself to you.

Honestly to me as a reader of this thread he was asking a question that wasnt offensive as a seeker of the fish in question. Honestly I was thinking at first that your pricepoint was not that crazy if it was a decade ago when I was into the hobby and didnt think much of it. Then had to think again wait a sec... ive not seen them in a while on lists or in tanks not in season? Im actively looking for a specific catfish. Thats why im actively scanning importers/ online sellers lists and always look on oddball lists.

Some people want those and cant source them easily as onlines all sold out right now. I havent seen them in person myself at any LFS in the chicago area lately. Do appericate the knowledge of all hobbyists put together and to provide a lead was a great suggestion for the others to hunt down that specific fish. Thank you for providing a source for him. I can see why you were offended tho coming from your POV. Dont be offended as not same areas have the same accessibility or pricepoint.
I do wish i was in cali for some of the prices of fish that comes in.

Cheers

Have you tried contacting aqua imports? I asked if they could locate a certain catfish for me and they were able to, I'd figure that they would be willing to put out feelers for the fish you're looking for like they did for me.

Also exum, what bichir did the red tail catfish originally eat? I don't believe it was mentioned.

Source is bogus. This is the sale page for the leichardti:

Notice the lack of description. Multiple and oddly positioned price points, and lack of an "add to cart" icon.

Here is a species that aquascape currently has in stock:

Notice the updated template. If you were to scroll down you would be able to read all the details on what theyre offering, the fish has a defined price and it says "item in stock!"

Moreover, if any of you were able to click on the large icon at the top that says CLICK HERE FOR CURRENT STOCK LIST you would notice leichardti arowana are conspicuosly absent from the list.

The leichardti page has obviously laid dormant for some time without updates. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper, as a quick online search will not divulge the whole story.

Polypterus endlicheri - Paid $50 (Consumed by RTC)

The Leichardti I bought was the last I’ve seen for sale minus one a member was selling in Ohio I believe pick up only... The LFS I bought him from I did pay more... he’s a good guy only takes two days off a year... (Christmas / Thanksgiving) he does charge more than online, but I have been of the mentality to support local...

I’ve been looking for Leichardti since November with few other members... there may be a ”one offsitting in a tank somewhere in the US... none of the online retailers I’ve contacted have them...

I’ve bought from Pedro there at Aquascape for more than 15 years, if there’s no “add to cart” it’s not available...

Thanks all for the positive replies and kind words!

Things do change from year to year in our trade. Price and availability wax and wane. For instance, some years ago the main Hemibagrus species (wyckii, nemurus, ARTC) could easily be found for $5 for 3"-er at many LFSs. Nowadays, it's $50-$150 and mostly larger fish. IDK why.

I totally get BFTD, but Adamson too has a bit of a point that if one is looking hard for some time and is lucky, they can score a cheaper lei online or at an LFS, at least in St. Paul, Minnesota it seems :)

So from my mole hill, I don't see a contradiction, I see mutually complementing info.

Right now im going to give my local importer 45 min north of me a year or two to locate that fish I want to build a good rapport with them. This will also give me good time to accquire a good sized tank for a breeding colony growout I had before. And they have personally collected that catfish on their expeditions and knew it was unusual of that time of the year when I mentioned it whilst other importers claimed its later in the spring/summer. I used to order tons from John K (snookn21) from FL hes no longer in biz unfortunately and he was my to go to person and i always got batches in the winter from my memory. And will continue to scan the lists to see the patterns and go from there.

Cheers
