He imports some of Oliver's fish into the USA for the New England Cichlid Association, as a hobby, on a side. He has brought in my 3 lithos from Oliver last Dec (after I've been pestering him and Oliver for 6 months) and now needs to send them to me but IDK when he would do it, he seems to be his own man and answers one in 6 emails, sometimes 6 months later!
Yeah rock bacu....another interchangeable trade name.
Just curious but this guy sounds like the owner of ECZS,is that him?

His name is Peter George and he has nothing to do with John or the East Coast Zoological Supply.

Other than the defined, light, or lack of defined stripe, part of the species definition for platydoras and doridae in general is the size of the eyes. Platydoras costatus has no stripe and large eyes, but two species exist with very light stripe which in some cases looks non existent, these are p. Hankockii with large eyes and p.brachylecis with a smaller eye. LIthodoras are also considered to have small eyes along with the fewer scutes. P. helicophilus is still unaccepted as a junior or synonym of costatus despite being originally described in 1868.
if what you have carries on growing (doubtful at the minute) then we will really be able to cross off platydoras.

So what has Rodrigo said? If nothing, I can let him know my ID opinion in a polite and helpful manner... if needed.

Nice pickup K krichardson . I had seen them on Predatory fins but I thought they where mislabeled. I have two cats that I picked up from Aqua-imports that I struggled to ID as they where labeled Platydoras sp. shallow scute. They very much looked IMO like the cats Predatory was offering as Lithodoras. While trying to properly ID my cats scientific name I saw someone on FB posting pics that where IMHO almost definitely the same species.

I believe that person is Iamfish Iamfish who responded to my question/comment ID'ing them as Platydoras costatus(am I right Iamfish, it was you posting those pics on the Catfish FB page and who answered my query about their ID?). I had looked on Planetcatfish myself and had more or less guessed the same as Iamfish told me. The discrepency in adult size though gave me pause as well as the appearance of the coloration in some of the pics on Planetcatfish.

Mine are an 8" individual and another that is probably around 12" at least(it's been awhile since I've seen his whole body). I find them quite remarkable as I think they may be wider then Megalodoras length to width in proportion to body size. My larger one is in a tank with two 10" Rhinodoras Dorbignyi, one 8" Xanthic Synodontis Nigrita, a 14" Bagarius Yarrelli and my two Trachycorystes who are around 14". He actually sits in a piece of decor that's made to look like a collection of broken pipes, the Trachycorystes share the pipe with him. The Doradidae leaves his head out with the Yarrelli sitting parallel to him under another pipe.

The other individual is in a tank with a similar sized Megalodras, some Dorbignyi 5-7" a Leiocassis longirostris a Bagrus Filamentosus and some Pseudauchenipterus nodosus.

I'm looking forward to hearing Predatorys response mostly cause I'm hoping he'll lower his price and I can grab another one or two. ?
